的 Andrews University 部门 音乐 has been a member of the National Association of Schools of 音乐 since 1964. 音乐 majors may choose to join the student chapter of 音乐 Educators National Conference.
招生
Status as an undergraduate music major is provisional until the student demonstrates academic and performance skills on an acceptable level. All first-year students must take the Freshman 的ory Placement Exam and arrange for an audition with the coordinator of his/her applied area prior to being considered for acceptance as a music major. After the student successfully completes these two admission 需求, the 音乐 Department freshman advisor makes a recommendation to the music faculty concerning the student's application for admission as a music major. 学生手册. 的 部门 音乐 学生手册, available at the 部门 音乐 office, provides clarification of general guidelines, 需求, and standards as well as information concerning recital attendance, recital 需求, and financial aid and departmental scholarships.
应用音乐 General Requirements. All music majors register in applied music for four years in residence and until they complete their senior recital.
应用音乐 Examination Requirements. All music majors participate in an applied music examination at least twice during the school year. See the 部门 音乐 学生手册 for full details.
Ensemble Requirements. All music majors must enroll in a music 系综 (风交响曲, Symphony Orchestra, University Chorale, or University Singers) each semester of residence for a minimum of 8 credits.
Minimum Passing Grades. No grade lower than a C in an applied lesson, 系综, or music class will count towards fulfillment of degree or program 需求 for the music major or music minor. This includes transfer music credits.
Recital Attendance. All music majors are required to enroll in the course MUPF489 Recital Attendance each semester in residence. 音乐 minors are required to enroll in this course for four (4) semesters.
Upper-division Status. Application for advancement to upper-division performance studies is submitted to the student's performance teacher no later than two weeks before the final sophomore applied-music examination. See the 部门 音乐 学生手册 for full information.
State Certification. 学生 planning to teach music in grades K-12 must take the Bachelor of 音乐 in 音乐 Education degree and also complete required education courses specified by the School of Education.
Denominational Certification is not automatic with state certification and is not required for graduation. Contact the certification clerk in the School of Education for full information.
音乐 Performance Credits
的 部门 音乐 offers private instruction in all major instruments and voice which may fulfill music major or non-music major elective 需求. Course outlines detailing specific course content are available from the instructor. 的 需求 correlate with guidelines suggested by the National Association of Schools of 音乐 as outlined in the 部门 音乐 学生手册.
